Standards and approvals
Supportive information is available upon request to establish an assessment to be acquired as with regards to product’s compliance with / to a particular authority’s queries / specifications. Please consult with GTC Technical Department.
Surface preparation
Concrete Substrates: 1. Degrease areas where grease, oil and other surface contamination exist in accordance with SSPC-SPI Solvent Cleaning. (Use GTC002 Thinner). 2. Hand wire brush/mechanical power tool clean areas where laitance, powdery and foreign materials exist in accordance with SSPC-SP2 and/or SSPC-SP3 Standards. 3. In situations where tank internals are hydrotested using salt or brackish water, it is required to implement Fresh Water Jetting for washing the Entire Internal Area to remove soluble salts, dirt,.. etc. 4. If necessary sand sweep blast to create a profile for subsequent top coats. 5. Surfaces to be coated must be dry, clean and contamination free prior to paint application process. Steel & Metal Substrates: 1. Degrease the metal surface in accordance with SSPC-SP1 Solvent Cleaning to remove grease, oil, soil and other surface contamination. (Use GTC002 Thinner). 2. In situations where tank internals are hydrotested using salt or brackish water, it is required to implement Fresh Water Jetting for washing the Entire Internal Area to remove soluble salts, dirt,....etc. 3. Abrasive blast clean in accordance with SSPC-SP10 Standard (SA2 1/2 Swedish Standard) to remove millscale, rust scale and old paint coatings where exist. 4. Surfaces to be coated must be dry, clean and contamination free prior to paint application process.
Where to use
Material is intended for two coat applications over well prepared and suitably primed metal and concrete surfaces. Please consult with GTC Technical Service Dept.
Mixing and thinning
Material must be properly mixed and is recommended for thinning with GTC099 Thinner as per below table:- Application Method | Brush / Roller | Conv. Spray | Airless Spray Thinning by Vol (% Max.) | 10% | * | 5% *Conventional Spray Application is not recommended.
Important restrictions
GTC Getoxy High Build Epoxy Protective Coating can be directly applied over freshly blasted steel surfaces and/or over suitably recommended Getoxy Range of Primers; yet ensure blasted surface is free from oxidation and that priming coat is dry, clean and contamination free prior to paint application process. When applied over concrete surfaces it is recommended to use Getoxy High Build Epoxy Protective Coating as a priming coat; yet should be thinned down 20-30% by volume with GTC099 Thinner. It is preferable to apply first coat with brush as this method helps achieving maximum penetration and adhesion into the substrate (over concrete surfaces). Brush and roller applications are intended for confined areas; yet multi coats will be required to achieve recommended D.F.T. To achieve recommended D.F.T., Airless spray equipment should be adjusted to the following: Tip Range : 20-26 thous. Output Range : 2500 - 3000 p.s.i. For better colour retention to exposed sunlight substrates, Getathane GPF over coating is recommended. For maximum performance, curing temperatures should be above 10°C (50°F) since material will not adequately cure below 5°C (41°F). Two pack epoxies are commonly known to chalk upon external exposure. It is not recommended to apply two pack epoxy material over 50°C (122 °F)
Cleaning tools
For cleaning tools and equipments use GTC099 Thinner.
Application conditions
At a temperature ranging 5°C (41°F) to 40°C (104 °F). Relative humidity is below 75%.
Storage and handling
Product must be stored as per local regulations and should be kept in dry well ventilated location far from heat and direct sunlight. Can should be tightly closed after use. Mix well before use. Storage temperature range between 5°C (41°F) to 40°C (104 °F).
Safety precautions
The following notes should be considered when using/applying painting material:- (a) Take precautions to prevent material entering the eyes (goggles should be worn, irrigate the eyes with water when become contaminated and obtain medical care at once). (b) Take precautions to avoid skin contact (gloves should be worn, barrier cream should be used). (c) Ensure that repeated contact of paint with skin is avoided. (d) Provide adequate ventilation. (Face masks must be worn). (e) Keep away from sparks and open flames (for solvent-based materials).
